December to March is another strong window: hot and sunny on the islands, and a wonderful time on the mainland for calving season in the southern plains. The long rains of April and May bring lush green landscapes, thinner crowds and lower prices — a rewarding time to travel if you’re flexible.

- Allow at least three nights on the coast. After the intensity of the bush, you’ll want more than a quick stopover to properly unwind.
- Match the region to your goal. The northern circuit — Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire — is ideal for first-timers and migration seekers; the southern parks offer a wilder, quieter alternative.
